Dogs Love To Eat

Dogs love to eat. There's no refuting that statement. Sleep, eat and make sure they are safe. That is essentially the daily to do list for any canine.

Dogs Love To Eat

So we all know they eat. And they will keep eating. Put it in front of them or within their reach and guess what? They'll play Houdini and make it all just disappear. But what do they eat.

What do dogs enjoy the most? What foods are safe and what are not?

What Foods Are Safe

Some of the healthier foods for dogs include eggs, though fully cooked, not raw. Carrots are also a good snack for dogs, raw or cooked. In fact most produce is a good choice to give a dog for a snack or treat. But not all produce.

Some fruits and vegetables can be toxic to dogs. Avoid things like grapes, chives, onions or various fruits.

Peanut butter, dogs love peanut butter. As do owners. It preoccupies them. Especially if you put it inside a kong or some other similar toy where reaching the award is a bit of work.  Remember, a tired dog is a good dog.

What Foods Are Bad

Chocolate is known to be bad for dogs. But what is really bad is the the presence of theobromine. Found in chocolate, but also found in other natural products like certain nuts and berries.

Grapes and raisins can lead to kidney failure. Which is a bit scary because those are two common human snacks. Meaning they're around the house a bit.

And avoid the presence of bacteria. Which means raw eggs, meat or fish should never be served. Even cooked meats are not always the best choice.

Moderation And Your Pet

Every dog will be different. What's discussed above is a general rule but nothing to be followed 100%. You need to learn more about your breed and the proper diet dog.

Just like humans, some dogs can handle certain foods whereas others cannot. I love pizza but my "lactose intolerant" friends refuse my pizza night invites (sarcasm).

If your dog does happen to get into some of those no, no foods should you be alarmed? It depends. Small doses are likely not a problem. But you be the judge. Watch your pet and make sure they are OK. When in doubt contact your vet immediately.

Resources

For more information on the do's and don'ts of various foods, please click this link from the AKC, Human Foods Dogs Can And Can't Eat. And excerpt of which is below.

"Dedicated dog lovers tend to be very kind people. We share our hearts and homes (and for some lucky pooches, even the foot of our beds) with our canine pals. Surely there is nothing wrong with sharing our favorite foods with them too, right? Not necessarily. Many of the foods, such as fruits and vegetables, that humans digest just fine can wreck havoc on a dog's body, causing severe health problems.

Before giving your dog foods that you crave, keep reading to learn which foods are safe and which can send your dog straight to the vet."
